I’m not an expert on parenting or community

My journey on the path of conscious parenting started when my son was three years old. What began as a desire to live in greater harmony with a strong-willed child has evolved into a life-altering odyssey into my own liberation and healing. Part of this healing was the realization that the nuclear family structure within which I was raised was and remains woefully inadequate for the mutual thriving of parents and children. And yet, the communities I’ve lived with have each struggled to answer the question of how to do it better, together.

Few topics are more tender to us as people who care for children than how to best accompany our children, especially when endeavoring to do it in a way that’s counter to dominant culture. And yet without a great deal of openness, curiosity and courage, we risk repeating the same practices with which we were raised, and inflicting the same wounds on our children that we are trying to heal now within ourselves, often oblivious to their origin.

The Village Child Project is where I engage in the research and exploration of collectively accompanying children through a lens of mutual liberation work. It is a place where I offer what I know, learn more from the communities I work with, and help weave a web of connection for those who share a vision of a collectively oriented nonviolent future for all. I work with an awareness of attachment theory, birth trauma, multigenerational and early trauma, Polyvagal Theory, neurodiversity and systemic nonviolence. If you’d like to walk beside me, please reach out.

“ If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”

TOGETHER WE CAN

  • compost

Learn how to identify what isn’t serving, glean what’s useful and compost the rest. This is a space for tenderness, grief and holding each other in our individual and collective limitations and imperfectness.

  • seed the future

Learn how to dream into the world we want for our children. This is a time for huge, impossible, delicious visioning!

  • grow

Learn how to create a map that guides us towards what’s possible. Drawing on individual and collective purpose, capacity and skills we can get clear on what is ours to do, and how we can start to do it.

Need Support?

If you are living or working in a community setting of any kind and are exploring accompanying children with respect, dignity and freedom and you need connection or support I’d love to speak with you. If I’m not able to help you, I may be able to connect you with someone who can. I work within the gift economy, which means I’m willing to work with aligned individuals and groups, regardless of their ability to pay, within my energetic and material capacity to do so.
